Remembering Tim Moore

Thank you for asking about Tim.

Tim Moore, who with his wife Diane founded Inspire Moore Winery at the south end of Canandaigua Lake, passed away on June 29, 2019.

Inspire Moore is known throughout the region for its fun outlook, festive events, and focus on small-batch wines, with a specialty in quality reds.

The winery’s spirit is embodied in the single-word names of its wines, like Inspiration, Harmony, Truth, Wisdom, Joy, Love and Grace.

In May of 2019, Tim was able to join in the bottling of a new wine called Resilience, even as he travelled back and forth to New York City for treatment.

Tim and Diane met at the University of California-Davis, and opened their winery in 2006. The winery grounds also house the Roots Cafe. Tim is survived by five children.

Carlo De Vito, author of the guide book (and blog) “East Coast Wineries,” posted this tribute on Facebook:

“Crushed. Timothy Moore was a great guy. He was always helpful whenever I called him or ran into him at any number of events. Quick with advice, a funny or sarcastic aside, a big smile, and seemingly endless optimism. He was a winemaking rockstar - good looks, great personality, and he seemingly knew everyone. He was a mentor to many young wine people in the Finger Lakes and beyond. A truly big hole is left in the Finger Lakes wine industry. I can only say, raise a glass to Tim. There can be no better way to honor him. Love to his wife, children, coworkers, and friends. God bless. God speed.”

Another tribute came from the magazine Edible Finger Lakes: “We had the great pleasure and honor of meeting and working with Tim and interviewing him on many occasions. He was always a joy to be around and would stop whatever he was doing for a glass of wine and good conversation with us. He will be missed and he leaves behind quite a legacy.”
